What is a lower lid blepharoplasty?
A lower eyelid blepharoplasty, also known as eye bag surgery, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that aims to reverse the effects of aging, by removing excess fat and fullness found under the eyes. This procedure can also get rid of excess skin and wrinkles on the lower eyelid.
This procedure can smooth out the appearance of the eyes, offering patients a more youthful and refreshed facial appearance.
Who is the Ideal Candidate for Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
You may be an ideal candidate for a lower eyelid blepharoplasty if you have:
- Excessive fatty deposits below the eye (bags), resulting in a “tired” or “sleep deprived” appearance
- Excess lower eyelid skin (loose skin)
- Wrinkles under your eyes
- Asymmetrical lower eyelids
What Does a Lower Blepharoplasty Consist of?
Lower eyelid surgery can be performed under general or local anesthesia.
A typical lower eyelid surgery begins with an incision made inside the eyelid (no visible scar) or below the lower lash line, depending on your needs.
Lower eyelid “bags” can be treated by removing the excess fat through a hidden incision inside the eyelid. If you also have excess skin, an incision under the eyelashes will allow the removal of redundant skin and restore a more youthful appearance. The incision is concealed below the lower lashes, making it difficult to spot once fully healed.
