What is a mini facelift?
A mini facelift is also known as a mini-rhytidectomy or short scar facelift. When compared to a full facelift, it is a less extensive facial rejuvenation cosmetic surgery, with a shorter scar. The main objective of this procedure is to reverse the effects of aging of the midface (upper cheeks), lower face and neck. A mini facelift is ideal for younger individuals (30s or 40s) who want to reverse earlier signs of aging.
When compared to a full facelift surgery, a mini facelift has shorter scars, a shorter recovery time, and a lower cost.
Who is the right candidate for a mini facelift?
Typically, good candidates for mini facelifts are younger individuals (30s or 40s) who have minimal signs of aging of the face and neck.
You may be an ideal candidate if you have:
- Folds appearing in the creases around your mouth (marionnete lines)
- Folds appearing in the creases around your nose
- Moderate sagging or loose skin along your jawline
- Moderate sagging of the cheeks
- Moderate sagging or loose skin of the neck
What does a mini facelift consist of?
A typical mini-facelift procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The procedure begins with a small incision at the sideburn or temple region and continues in front of the ear. The incisions are placed in natural creases that result in camouflaged scars. Unlike the traditional facelift, the mini or short-scar facelift incision does not extend behind the ear and into the posterior hairline.
In addition to lifting the aging skin and discarding the excess skin, deeper tissues can also be lifted to achieve a youthful appearance (see facelift). A small incision beneath the chin is sometimes required to fully address the neck in certain patients (see mini neck lift).
