What is a mini neck lift?
A mini neck lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that aims to reduce the effects of aging of the neck, by removing the excess neck fat and tightening the neck muscles (platysma).
The main objective of a mini neck lift is to provide a more youthful neck appearance and to improve the neck and jawline contour.
Who is considered an ideal candidate for a mini neck lift?
Typically, ideal candidates for a mini face lift are younger individuals who are experiencing minimal signs of aging and fullness of the neck.
This procedure is ideal if you have:
- Neck fullness or fat (double chin)
- Loose neck muscle (platysmal bands)
- Poor jawline definition (jawline and neck merge with each other)
- No excess neck skin
Patients with significant excess skin are not candidates for a mini neck lift (See full neck lift for more details). Patients with excess subcutaneous fat only might be candidates for neck liposuction (submental liposuction). What does a mini neck lift consist of?
A typical mini neck lift procedure is performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. This decision depends on your personal needs.
Compared to a traditional neck lift, a mini neck lift does not involves incisions around your ear. A mini neck lift only involves a small incision under your chin (usually concealed in a natural crease).
Through this incision, excess neck fat under your skin (subcutaneous fat) or deep fat (subplatysmal fat) can be removed. Tightening of the neck muscles (platysma) is also performed to improve the neck contour and eliminate platysmal bands. A mini neck lift decreases neck fullness, improves the neck angle and jawline contour, resulting in a youthful well-defined neck and jawline.
