Blepharoplasty in Montreal

Upper and Lower Bleph

What is blepharoplasty?

A blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that improves the aesthetic appearance of the lower and/or the upper eyelids. This procedure addresses several aesthetic concerns such as:

Upper eyelid

  • Removal of upper eyelid excess skin (redundant skin that results in an aged appearance)
  • Removal of excess fat pockets that lead to aged and puffy appearance of the eyelids
  • Creation of a youthful and refreshed upper eyelid appearance

Lower eyelid

  • Removal of lower eyelid excess skin (redundant skin that results in an aged appearance)
  • Correction of creases and wrinkles of the lower eyelid
  • Removal of lower eyelid bags (excess fat bulging resulting in a tired and aged appearance)
  • Tightening of the lower eyelid when required (canthopexy or canthoplasty)
  • Creation of a youthful and refreshed lower eyelid appearance

Who is the right candidate for this procedure?

Any person with noticeable aging of the eyelids could benefit from upper or lower eyelid surgery (or both). Excess skin, heavy, wrinkled, and baggy eyelids could be corrected to achieve a youthful, refreshed, and natural look.

What does the procedure consist of?

There are various techniques based on your specific needs. When performed alone, all techniques of eyelid surgery can be performed under local anesthesia. If required, eyelid surgery can be combined with other procedures to maximize facial rejuvenation and achieve optimal aesthetic results. These procedures may include a face lift, neck lift, fat grafting of the tear trough, lower eyelid laser (tightening).

Upper eyelid surgery (upper eyelid blepharoplasty): The procedure involves tightening and lifting of the upper eyelid skin. Excess fat may also be removed to achieve a youthful and refreshed upper eyelid appearance. The resulting scar is placed strategically, hidden in the natural upper eyelid crease.

Lower eyelid surgery (lower eyelid blepharoplasty): The procedure involves tightening and removal of the lower eyelid skin. Excess fat and lower eyelid bags may also be removed to achieve a youthful and refreshed lower eyelid appearance. The resulting scar is placed strategically below the lash line.

Lower eyelid surgery with no visible scars (transconjunctival blepharoplasty): If you have minimal or no excess lower eyelid skin, a transconjunctival approach can be performed. An incision is made in the conjunctiva, the inner surface of the eyelid, without any visible scars on the skin. This approach allows the removal of excess fat and lower eyelid bags. Skin tightening is often simultaneously performed with laser.
